The Town of Sandy Creek is a small quiet community located approximately 12.5 miles west of Wilmington, NC. The Town was incorporated in 1988 with the diligence of Ernest E "Buddy" Grainger, A man who envisioned a town with easier access. Consequently, he became the first Mayor of Sandy Creek in September 1988, serving until December 1995. As of the 2009 census the population of Sandy Creek was 318 people, with a growth rate of 29.3% since 2000. Sandy Creek continues to grow without losing it's small hometown feeling.
